ITS has just released a new role for students in the application process.
In the past, applying students needed to interact with Admissions, Financial Aid and eventually the Registrar’s Office. However, this was not a smooth process, and it frequently involved phone calls and transfers to each department. In order to streamline this process, applying students are now able to log into myPlymouth.
The version of myPlymouth that applicant students log into is specifically designed for them, and is a truncated version of what a registered students sees. This provides Admissions, Financial Aid and the Registrar’s Office with a single point of contact for applicant students. The applicant student role includes a channel for admissions as well as a channel for Financial Aid and a list of important dates for prospective students. This single point of access simplifies the process both for applicant students as well as for the departments that interact with them.
Applying students can now check the status of their admission application, their financial aid application, double check deadline dates, check out what is going on in Student Life and read up on PSU news and much more all from this new portal.
From a customer service standpoint, the applicant student role is much easier to support. A consultant on the phone with an applying student can see much of the same things, making it easier to walk students through features. Helping students find their forgotten PIN numbers is now consistent throughout the offices, and something the help desk can do instead of forwarding the applying student to another department. This also makes the transition from applicant student to registered student much smoother. Students will log into the same system and simply have more features once they become an a registered student. myPlymouth has become the system that students use from the time they apply to their interactions as an alumnus.
The MIS team worked hard to get this new role released as soon as possible. They are continuing to develop features, so if you have any feedback about the applicant student role, and the services provided to them through the portal, they would love to hear it!
